Working with me

What is the Movement Pre-Screen?

A free 30-minute phone call with me. We talk about your number one struggle and your number one goal, I have you try a few simple movements, and you leave with a next step that fits. If you used the Atlas, bring your plan and we start from there.

Is the call really free? Will you try to sell me something?

It's free and there's no obligation. If coaching with me fits, I'll tell you what it looks like and what it costs. If it doesn't fit, I'll tell you that too, and point you somewhere better if I can.

What does coaching cost?

It depends on how much support you need, from a plan you run on your own to coaching with me week by week. I go over the options and the cost on the call, once I know what you actually need. No surprises, and no pressure to decide on the call.

Do you coach online or in person?

Both. Online coaching works anywhere. In-person sessions are in the Denver area.

Do I need a gym?

No. We start with what you have. Many first moves need a little floor space and nothing else, and we add equipment only when your training calls for it.

How much time will this take each week?

Plan on 2 or 3 sessions a week. Your first move is small on purpose, so it fits on a busy week.

Can you promise this will fix my pain?

No, and nobody honest can. Bodies respond differently, and results depend on many things, including how consistently the plan gets done. What I can promise is a plan built around you, checked as we go, and a straight answer if something needs a doctor instead of a coach.

Are you a physical therapist or a doctor?

No. I'm a coach. I hold NASM certifications as a Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist and Certified Nutrition Coach, and a degree in exercise science. I've worked in chiropractic, physical therapy and personal training settings.

I don't diagnose or treat. If something needs a physician or a physical therapist, I'll tell you, and I'm glad to work alongside them.

I already finished physical therapy. Why would this be different?

Physical therapy is often what gets you out of pain and back to normal. What usually comes next is building enough capacity for the life you want, so normal holds up. That's the gap I work in. We pick up where your discharge plan ends, with your therapist's guidance in mind if you have it.

Pain and training

Why does my back pain keep coming back?

How loud pain gets depends on more than one thing: what your tissues can handle right now, how sensitive your nervous system has become, how threatening the situation feels, and how well you sleep and recover. When it keeps coming back, it's usually several of these at once, not one broken part.

The four levers that turn it down are understanding it, loading it, moving it and recovering from it. The CWPT Atlas walks you through all four.

My MRI shows a bulging disc. Will my back ever be okay?

Scan findings like disc bulges and wear are common in people with no back pain at all, so the picture on the scan often doesn't explain the pain you feel. Ask your doctor what your scan means for you.

Am I too old to start exercising or lifting?

No. For most people starting is safe if you begin easy. In a study of 315,059 adults, people who became active between 40 and 61 had about the same lower risk of death as people who had exercised all their lives. Strength training builds muscle after 50 too. Start easy and progress steadily.

When should I see a doctor instead?

Call 911 or go to the ER now for back pain with new bladder or bowel changes. See a doctor within a few days for leg numbness or weakness, or pain that wakes you every night. If you're unsure, get checked first. Coaching comes after that.

The CWPT Atlas

What is the CWPT Atlas?

A free, plain-language guide to pain, movement, sleep, stress and training. You ask what's going on the way you'd ask a friend. An eight-minute self-check ranks what's behind it across six systems and builds a 30-day plan around one first move. Every claim is graded against the research.

Get the Atlas.

Is the Atlas medical advice?

No. It's education, not medical care. When something needs a professional, the Atlas tells you how soon, from calling 911 to booking a visit, and what to bring and ask.

What happens to my email?

We send you the link. If you said yes to more, you also get a short series on using the Atlas and occasional notes from me. Unsubscribe anytime. We never sell your email. Read the privacy policy.
